The journey of a lifetime
(Please note: I help counselling students UK wide. All sessions are by video call. I use FaceTime or WhatsApp video.)
As a counsellor in training you may already recognise that your training to be a professional counsellor is a truly unique study. It’s so unique because it’s about the internal world of human beings, which means it is also about you. That’s a really big deal, I think. We can try to be observers, but it’s impossible because we’re participants - we are in it. A bit like quantum physics…
I think therefore I am
My training journey of a lifetime began in 2002. I trained hard for 4 years plus. I recall trying very hard to keep myself outside of it all. I tried not to be drawn in, affected. I tried not to feel. In fact I tried so hard that it was soon picked up on. I was told off for thinking, not feeling. ‘When I ask you how you feel Marina, you tell me what you think’… (oh no).
I used to silently repeat ‘you can run but you can’t hide’ because that’s what it was like. It was as if the eagle eyed tutors, clinical supervisors and group facilitators could see straight through me.
It’s not an easy journey is it? But it is a life-changing one. And I do it again in a heart-beat. I really loved it.
All churned up
So, the training bodies require their students to undergo a certain amount of personal therapy - counselling. And as we journey on we understand why. The material can churn us up. It touches our sore spots. Our defences don’t work as well. The thing we thought we’d dealt with, we hadn’t. We’d buried it.
The time has come
I work with a limited amount of student counsellors. It’s a privilege and an honour quite frankly. And I feel this because you are not only going on to do great and wonderful things, you are also placing your trust in me to help you on this part of your journey.
I offer counselling on a weekly or fortnightly basis. I use FaceTime or WhatsApp video. The fee is reduced to £35 for a standard 50 minute session.
If you feel drawn to me, please get in touch and we can go from there. Remember, counselling is a healing and empowering process. It really is the ultimate in self-care. Contact Marina
